:: Why ::
- Started chasing lightning storms for photography in 2007, but found it difficult to get accurate data.
- The Blitzortung volunteer-based lightning detector network did not have contributors in Eastern-Europe.
:: History ::
- Started chasing lightning storms in Estonia starting in 2007 (a lot of fun, but no decent results yet)
- June 2008: Ordered a pre-built lightning detector from Daniel
- June 27, 2008: Received the lightning detector
- July 21, 2008: Have everything apart from the power supply
- July 24, 2008: Antenna turned out too flimsy, will rebuild
- August 2008-February 2009: Lightning season near its end, new priorities at work, project on effective hiatus
- February 2009: A colleague got interested in the project and is building his own signal amplifier and discussing the building of a Linux client
- March 14, 2009: Next lightning season will arrive soon. Assembled power supply. Lightning detector up. The software requires dependencies (like an external audio card input to file application) that it doesn't prompt about. The software makes more sense with the PDF manual. Deliberate noise tests are successful, waiting for lightning storms.
